The Metal-Processing Technology Institute, AIMME, is a nationally based, private non-profit making association whose aim is to foster improvement in the competitiveness of companies in the metal processing sector through R&D both in their processes and their products. The Product Engineering Unit is a R&D department that provides design and fabrication of prototypes or final parts that are tailored to the SMEs needs, by developing new products and processes. The unit has 17 years experience in RP and AM processes through one of the most equipped AM laboratories among European research centres. The laboratory includes technologies like Stereolithography (SLA), Photopolymerisation by Digital Light Processing (DLP), Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM), Laser Cusing (LC) and EBM. Additionally, AIMME has proper mechanical testing, material characterization, surface treatment and chemical analysis laboratories all of them certified on national level.
The role of AIMME in RepAIR, as expert in AM applications and EBM technology, will be to participate in the analysis of requirements under the technology application point of view (WP2), contribute to the development of the new supply chain (WP3) and optimising the role of the EBM process in this supply chain (WP5, WP6). Testing and characterisation of the samples and parts produced will also be done at AIMME (WP6). AIMME will also participate in the building of material and process libraries for the new supply chain certification (WP7) so that an as much as automated process might be integrated in the RepAIR supply chain (WP8). Redesign, production and material test of sample parts using EBM technology will also be carried out at AIMME (WP9). AIMME will contribute also to the dissemination of the project (WP10).
